MISERABLY COLD, IT WAS THE EMMYS, & LEMON LOAF: REID #172
Another week in January... what can I say? (Rly, what can I say? Help pls!)
SHORT:
It’s a good thing I’m not Dua Lipa b/c I would be photographed every single day on train eatin’ a crumbly lemon loaf at 6pm hair stickin straight up nose full of snot.
MEDIUM:
I’m writing this during the Emmys. Congrats to all my friends who won tonight. Every year there’s more and more of ya, which is rockin.
I’d also like to give a special shoutout to myself and the 3 old women at the bus stop today who gave performances of a lifetime pretending to not wanna collapse and die in the freezing cold while waiting for the B38 bus
(and tbh, the large automobile arriving after 25 miserable minutes felt better than any award I ever have or will receive).
LONG:
Not gunna lie, not much happening in Reid-town this week. I’m working hard at my day job (SNL for leggings). And it’s snowing. And dark.
I find myself turning into Simon Cowell every time I walk outside (I’m extremely grumpy, and if I hear someone busking in the subway station, I think “terrible” or “how can I combine them with 4-5 other subway performers to create the next One Direction?”)
I went to see All Of Us Strangers and didn’t love it (sry!). At the end, out of nowhere, the two leading gay guys fly up into the sky and become a star.
I was like, “what” out loud, in the theater.
We got up and left and everyone was silent, but I knew in their heads they were like, “why did those two gay guys inexplicably fly up into the sky?”
Snack Of The Week is obviously lemon loaf I had at 6pm on the train1.
I did a fun show on Friday where I performed standup while backed by live jazz accompaniment. You should go to the next one. It’s pretty awesome.
Last but not least, I learned this week that Martin Scorsese was, at one point, married to Julia Cameron aka the creator of The Artists Way. Maybe everyone knew this. But I did not. And last night at 1am, it rly blew my mind… the world is small… (or maybe it’s big… i don’t kno… c u next tuesday)
Thank you for subscribing. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s not – it’s a lot like when people slip on ice. If this is your first time reading, please god check out the archives, they’re better than this iteration, probably.
Sincerely,
Reid Pope
