REID #136
SHORT:
Katy Perry sang at King Charles’s Coronation this week. I didn’t watch it, but I hope she dedicated her “I Kissed A Girl” performance to Princess Diana’s gay-ass haircut*.
*said and sent with love, but we, as a culture, have to address it
MEDIUM:
I am done with classes, but still have my thesis to… write. Graduating during the writer’s strike is slayista. I 100 percent stand with the WGA. Subscribe to this newsletter
if you’re interested in learning more. The fact that people think AI can replace writers is so bleak. Can’t wait for the day when my kid takes their first steps … toward teaming up with Doritos and Walmart. We live in hell!LONG:
Summer’s here! Men on the train are beet red, sweating bullets, foreheads lookin’ like the Jordan River in their little suits. I would so much rather see a regular temperature guy at the office in a crop top than a man burning up in an Express slim solid grey wool blend. But that’s just me.
I saw the perfect movie Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret this past weekend. Jess and I sat next to two moms who kept going “YUP” after Rachel McAdams said anything. The kids who belonged to the moms were two rows in front of us. They made sure to yell “ew” any time characters kissed. Meanwhile, Kathy Bates was having the time of her life playing the grandma which made me want to smooch her.
I also finished up Jury Duty this week — an exceptional show that asks the question: do you have any straight men in your life with even a whisper of the heart/morality that this one guy we lucked out and found for the show has? (← yeah, it’s a grammatically confusing question, but a GOOD one!)
Long-time fans of the newsletter know that I have a long-running Emmy campaign going for a woman named Amy Tolsky who has played millions of mothers on various TV shows (including mom of “Big Red” in High School Musical The Musical: The Series).
Well guess what?
She shows up in Jury Duty and gives another life-altering performance!
I don’t want to spoil it, but let’s just say… she breaks into tears on the stand! A Few Good Men WISHES!! Wait… that’s they should’ve named the show… “One Good Man”…
Anyway, it’s been a week of lots of TV/Film and very little Reid does the writing they’re supposed to be doing. I’m in LA next week if anyone wants to book me on a comedy show or get coffee.
Thanks as always for reading, and C U Next Tuesday.
Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s not – it’s a lot like when people slip on ice. If this is your first time reading, check out the archives.
Sincerely,
Reid Pope
